About Us

The Rock is a specialist, classic rock radio station that broadcasts online to people in Ireland and abroad. The Rock was formed in 2007 by Bay Broadcasting Ltd and Jazbury Ltd and has broadcast under a series of temporary radio licences granted by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland in 2007, 2008, 2013 and 2015.  Our most recent licence ran for the month of September 2015; we broadcast a classic rock radio service to Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford, Kilkenny and the North East of Ireland (Louth, North Meath, Cavan & Monaghan).

The Rock is operated by Bay Broadcasting Ltd & Jazbury Ltd, companies connected with the shareholders of Radio NOVA. NOVA holds a classic rock radio licence for Dublin city, county and commuter belt (North Kildare, North Wicklow & South Meath). NOVA commenced broadcasting in 2010, after receiving a specialist classic rock music licence from the BAI in 2009. NOVA holds one of two specialist music licence granted in Ireland, the others being Sunshine 106.8 (Easy Listening). Only Dublin and the commuter belt have been granted specialist music licences by the BAI.

The Rock plays the wall to wall classic rock, twenty four hours per day via Therock.ie and has plans to return to FM with more BAI temporary radio licences in 2021.
